Fiji is made up of a chain of 322 islands, approximately 110 of which are inhabited. The two major islands Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

POPULATION: 880,874 (July 2004 est.)
LANGUAGES: English (official), Fijian, Hindustani
ETHNIC GROUPS: Fijian 51% (predominantly Melanesian with a Polynesian admixture), Indian 44%, European, other Pacific Islanders, overseas Chinese, and other 5% (1998 est.).
LITERACY LEVELS: Definition: age 15 and over can read and write

The Education for All Children with Vision Impairments (EFA-VI) National Plan for Fiji (2009-2011) was produced through a process of collaboration with Fijian and Pacific regional government and non-government organisations and support groups. The International Council for People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) in partnership with the World Blind Union (WBU) are currently making preparations for hosting the Fiji EFA-VI Forum in Suva Fiji, from 6th to 8th October 2008. Read about Fiji EFA-VI Forum.
